As a PhD and Lead Research Scientist in AI, Roberto has amassed extensive experience over the years by spearheading numerous innovative projects in academia and industry, with a particular focus on Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Data Science. Roberto obtained his PhD in Electronics specialized in AI from the University of Alcalá (UAH), earning the Cum Laude distinction and two awards for his thesis, including the Award for Best PhD Thesis in Intelligent Vehicles in 2017.
Prior to this, he earned BSc and MSc degrees in Computer Science and an additional MSc in Electronics from UAH in 2009, 2012, and 2013, respectively, garnering an Outstanding Graduate Award as the top student of his cohort. Throughout his PhD, he honed his academic skills as a Teaching Assistant in Computer Vision for the MSc programs in Electronic Engineering and Telecommunication Engineering at UAH. His academic background paved the way for a successful professional career in AI spanning over a decade. Additionally, he boasts an extensive research history, including internships at leading tech centers in Cambridge (UK) and Sydney (Australia).
He has presented at numerous international conferences across the globe, including in the US, Korea, Italy, Germany, and Portugal. With a technical repertoire comprising 33 scientific publications (>3500 citations in Google Scholar with an h-index of 20 and i10-index of 23), 10 patents, and 16 professional and academic awards, he has made significant contributions to the field. In 2022, he was honored as the winner of the Nova 111 list in the Software, Cloud & IT vertical, recognizing him as one of the top 10 technologists under 35 years old in Spain. Presently, he takes pride in his role as a Lead Research Scientist at NielsenIQ, a top multinational company specializing in market studies and applied research, where he manages AI solutions and advocates for diversity and inclusion as the IIT Chair.
