NIQ Marks 10-Year Collaboration with Feeding America® During Hunger Action Month in September


The research alliance provides valuable data on hunger nationwide, including state-by-state analysis of food inequity to drive awareness, policy, and action

CHICAGO (September 9, 2025) — NielsenIQ (NYSE: NIQ), a global leader in consumer intelligence, celebrates 10 years of working with Feeding America® while raising awareness for Hunger Action Month. Consumers and organizations can join NIQ’s more than 40,000 employees in supporting Hunger Action Month by donating—where you can double your impact with a match through September—launching a fundraiser, or by signing a pledge to influence lawmakers to make lasting change against food insecurity. 

In addition to raising awareness for Hunger Action Month, NIQ is proud to supply integral data to the non-profit organizations Map the Meal Gap study. The report is an important tool to rally our nation around a shared understanding of hunger in America—guiding food banks, policymakers, and researchers in the movement to end hunger.  

Feeding America’s most recent Map the Meal Gap results discovered that child food insecurity affects every US county and district, with rates reaching almost 50% in some areas. The research provided by NIQ to Feeding America helps to spread necessary awareness of hunger in the U.S.

“Thanks to our collaboration with NIQ and the food price data they provide each year through our Map the Meal Gap study, Feeding America and our partners can see beyond national numbers and understand the true cost of food in every county in the country,” said Adam Dewey, director of research translation engagement and dissemination at Feeding America. “These local insights, combined with our local estimates of food insecurity, allow our network of more than 200 food banks, 21 state associations, and 60,000 agency partners to better serve neighbors facing hunger with the dignity and support they deserve. And the ripple effect goes even further—researchers, advocates, and policymakers also use the food price data to shape solutions that bring us closer to a hunger-free America.” 

Over the past decade, NIQ’s contributions to the Map the Meal Gap project have garnered national awareness and action: 

  • 179 references in research literature in 2024 
  • 1,600 unique public requests for Map the Meal Gap data in 2024 
  • Nearly 800 media articles that reference Map the Meal Gap to date 
  • 3 in 4 partner food banks say they frequently use the Map the Meal Gap data 
  • Consistent use by the Urban Institute in research on SNAP benefits
