Cyber 5 Delivers Strong eCommerce Growth

Cyber 5, the five-day stretch from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday, delivered strong results for the U.S. eCommerce market. According to NIQ Digital Purchases data, overall online sales grew 11% year over year, with Black Friday and Cyber Monday leading in total sales, posting gains of 13% and 10%, respectively.

Pure Play Generalists Lead the Charge

Merchants classified as Pure Play Generalists, such as Amazon, led this growth trend by a wide margin. In contrast, many other merchant types, including several category specialists, experienced year-over-year declines in online sales.

The top-selling online category during these five days was Apparel and Accessories, followed by ElectronicsHome and Kitchen, and Health and Beauty. The leading product types mirrored these trends, with the top five being:
