Our Geomarketing Map of the Month for March shows the regional distribution of single households in Germany in 2025.

According to the latest NIQ study on demographics, single-person households are the most common household type in Germany, accounting for 41.60 percent, followed by multi-person households without children (31.25 percent) and multi-person households with children (27.15 percent).

The highest share of single households is recorded in the urban district of Regensburg, where 55.91 percent of all households are inhabited by only one person. Bielefeld, with 41.65 percent, lies almost exactly at the national average. The lowest share of single-person households can be found in the district of Cloppenburg, where they make up only 31.29 percent of all households.
