Map of the Month: Online purchasing power for food, Germany 2019

GfK’s Map of the Month for September illustrates the 2019 regional distribution of purchasing power for food purchases via online retail in Germany.

According to GfK’s newly released study, Munich residents have the most per capita purchasing power (€69) for food purchases made through online retail, which is almost seven times as much as inhabitants of the last-ranked rural district of Wittenberg. Second place goes to the urban district of Frankfurt am Main (€51), followed by the urban districts of Hamburg (€47) and Düsseldorf (€45).

GfK recently released product-line purchasing power for 17 product groups for both online and brick-and-mortar retail in Germany. There are substantial regional differences in product spending via online and offline retail channels. GfK’s data allows retailers and manufacturers to adjust their sales and marketing strategies based on these consumer preferences.

More results from GfK’s purchasing power studies can be found in our press release.
