Map of the Month: GfK Purchasing Power Europe 2020

GfK’s Map of the Month for October shows the distribution of purchasing power in Europe in 2020.

According to GfK’s latest purchasing power study, Europeans have an average of €13,894 per person available for spending and saving in 2020. This is a nominal decline of almost 5.3 percent compared to last year’s revised value, which can be attributed mainly to the spread of COVID-19 and the resulting economic impact. But the gap between rich and poor in the 42 evaluated countries is substantial: Liechtenstein tops the rankings with €64,240 per person, while last-ranked Ukraine has just €1,703 per person.

The study “GfK Purchasing Power Europe 2020” is available for 42 European countries at detailed regional levels such as municipalities and postcodes, along with seamlessly fitting data on inhabitants and households as well as digital maps. GfK has also calculated the Corona Impact Index, which illustrates the extent to which European countries have suffered as a result of the effects of COVID-19.
