Our Geomarketing Map of the Month for January shows the regional distribution of purchasing power in Germany in 2026.
Purchasing power in Germany is set to rise significantly in 2026: With an average of 31,193 euros per capita, it is 5 percent higher than in the previous year, corresponding to an increase of 1,466 euros. However, the regional picture is highly heterogeneous. Among all 400 urban and rural districts, Starnberg is the undisputed leader. There, people have an average of 42,751 euros available for consumer spending, housing, leisure activities, or savings.
The biggest winner is the district of Lichtenfels. With a per-capita purchasing power of 27,926 euros, the Upper Franconian district is still more than 10 percent below the national average. Nevertheless, it has shown the strongest improvement nationwide, rising by 2.6 index points.
The national average is represented by the urban district of Landau in der Pfalz. There, people have an average of 31,207 euros available for spending and savings. As in previous years, the lowest ranking is held by the urban district of Gelsenkirchen. With a per-capita purchasing power of 24,538 euros, the available net income of Gelsenkirchen residents is more than 21 percent lower than that of the average citizen.
